Erich Saufnauer, born in 1965, started to play the French horn when he was eight years old.
He was already a member of the “Austrian Youth Philharmonic Orchestra” at the age of
twelve.
With fourteen Erich Saufnauer won the first price at the competition “Jugend musiziert”
Austria.
Since 1984 he has been a member of the “Orchester der Volksoper Wien” and also a
member of the “Symphonieorchester der Volksoper Wien”.
During his career as a musician he was playing in all Viennese orchestras, especially in
“Wiener Staatsoper” and “Wiener Philharmoniker”.
In 2006 Erich Saufnauer successfully completed his academic studies of psychology at the
University of Vienna with the focus on the psychology of the technique playing brass
instruments.
Since 2016 Erich Saufnauer has been the chairman of the “Symphonieorchester der
Volksoper Wien”.
